CHICAGO, Feb. 8, 2018 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) recently announced that the PPG Foundation invested $45,000 to support Chicago-area nonprofit organizations that serve students pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers. The grants highlight PPG’s commitment to increasing STEM educational opportunities for young people. The donation was made on behalf of PPG’s architectural coatings business.
The Chicago Urban League was among the grant recipients. The League will receive $15,000 toward the economic, educational and social progress of African Americans and the Chicago Urban League’s Project Ready, which is a middle school/STEM module and summer camp that inspire youth to pursue STEM academics and careers.
“One of our goals at the League is to introduce the youth enrolled in our programs to career paths in the areas of math and science,” said Angela Hamilton, Senior Director of Youth Development. “The $15,000 grant will allow us to expand the curriculum and broaden their exposure to professionals in these fields.”
“As a global innovator in paints and coatings, PPG is committed to continued advancements in technology and science, as they are at the core of what we do,” said Justin Williams, PPG regional sales manager, Chicago, Northwest Indiana and Wisconsin markets. “By supporting students in their exploration of these fields, we can help them gain real-world experience and foster their interest in pursuing a career in STEM.”
