Chicago residents learn digital literacy and job skills through $100,000 Chicago Urban League contribution from AT&T

CHICAGO, July 20, 2017 — More Chicagoans are connecting to employment opportunities by learning about and using technology, including computers, email and the internet, thanks to a $100,000 AT&T* contribution to the Chicago Urban League, as it closes out its commemoration of 100 years of service to Chicago.

The AT&T Digital Empowerment Workshop at the Chicago Urban League is creating greater access to technology and improved computer skills to help people achieve a new level of job readiness today.

Since the inception of the workshops, hundreds of Chicagoans have improved their marketability for employment through this initiative.

“The Chicago Urban League is excited to continue our work helping Chicago residents improve their job skills and their ability to find employment through this important initiative,” said Chicago Urban League President & CEO Shari Runner.  “Today, it is essential that workers understand how to use technology.  This smart investment from AT&T helps our clients learn new skills to secure employment, which leads to stronger communities and an overall better quality of life. ”

Workshop participants are:

  • Showing proficiency in how a computer works
  • Accessing and navigating the internet
  • Using email more frequently, and
  • Completing online job applications with confidence

“We want to help people connect to employment opportunities using today’s technology, and that’s why we support the AT&T Digital Empowerment Workshop as part of the Chicago Urban League’s Workforce Development Center,” said AT&T Illinois President Paul La Schiazza.  “The results are giving Chicago residents new skills for the next generation of work opportunities.  We are proud to work with the Chicago Urban League to help improve lives and our economy.”
