Legendary Diana Ross to be the Featured Entertainer at Chicago Urban League’s Golden Fellowship Dinner

Benefit Gala, Themed “Building on Our Legacy,” set for November 19

CHICAGO, Aug. 2, 2016 – The Chicago Urban League announced that one of the most iconic entertainers of all time, Diana Ross, will be the headlining performer at the Golden Fellowship Dinner-Centennial Edition benefit gala on November 19, 2016 at the Hilton Chicago.

The Golden Fellowship Dinner is the League’s largest annual fundraiser and one of Chicago’s premier fundraising events. Each year, the dinner draws more than 1,700 of the city’s best-known business leaders, human rights advocates, philanthropist and elected leaders. This year’s theme, Building On Our Legacy, pays homage to the community-based, economic empowerment organization’s founding 100 years ago to assist southern Blacks who migrated north to find housing and employment.

“The Chicago Urban League has survived and thrived for 100 years by remaining true to our core values and mission,” said Chicago Urban League President and CEO Shari Runner. “This has allowed us to make substantial impact, and as we step into the League’s second century of service, we are taking an intentional, focused and outcome driven approach to enacting transformational change.”

Today, the Chicago Urban League’s student development, workforce, human capital, housing and entrepreneurship programs serve more than 10,000 Chicago residents.

In a career spanning five decades, Ms. Ross has set music industry milestones; earned dozens of major awards and accolades, and is recognized as one of the most prominent women in popular music history. Over the next year, Ms. Ross is scheduled to perform in 22 cities in the U.S. and Canada. (Save the Date)

“We look forward to Ms. Ross’ performance and the love and positive energy she brings to every performance,” said Chicago Urban League Board Chairman Maria C. Green “This year’s Golden Fellowship Dinner will be a ‘can’t miss’ celebration.”

Diana Ross, affectionately known to some as “The Boss,” opened doors for African American women in the entertainment industry with diverse talents. In previous years, headliners at GFD have included actress/singer Vanessa Williams; jazz and R&B aficionado George Benson; and balladeer Al Jarreau.

This year’s Dinner Co-Chairs are Anne Pramaggiore, President & CEO, ComEd and Frederick Waddell, Chairman and CEO, Northern Trust.  Serving as Dinner Host Committee Chair is Joe Moore of Shell Oil (retired). Lead dinner sponsors include ComEd, Northern Trust, Boeing, Kirkland and Ellis LLP, Abbott Laboratories, BMO Harris Bank, ITW, Loop Capital, PNC Bank, PwC, and Dona and Sam Scott.
