The 2024 General Election is set to be one of the most consequential of our time. From the top of the ballot to the bottom, there is an all-out effort to return to a time when minorities and women had fewer rights and less access to opportunity. In an age of voter suppression efforts in many states, widespread misinformation, deceptive social media tactics, and outright lies, exercising our right to vote is more important than ever.
In collaboration with the National Urban League, the Chicago Urban League is working to increase voter education and turnout in Illinois and surrounding states.

What’s the plan?
The Chicago Urban League has developed a 100-day plan to help drive voter education, registrations, and turnout.
Answering the National Urban League’s call to Defend Democracy, Demand Diversity, and Defeat Poverty, the Chicago Urban League will work with other Urban League affiliates to drive voter participation in Midwest states by engaging a variety of community organizations to raise awareness of key issues and increase voter registration, early voting, and election day turnout.

Announcements & Upcoming Events
In case you missed it, the Oct. 3 telephone town hall with residents on Chicago’s South and West sides was electrifying to break down health and voting issues in the 2024 election. Moderated by Calmetta Coleman, Chief Operating Officer at the Chicago Urban League, the hour-long town hall allowed residents to call in with questions for Dr. Stephanie Low, a Family Medicine Physician and Chief Medical Officer at Near North Medical Health.
Some residents said the telephone town hall was one of the best voter engagement events to have their voices heard and address issues important to the community. GOTVax dialed out to about 50,000 phone numbers on Chicago’s South and West sides.

- With the 2024 general election less than 50 days away, some 40 residents ramped up their voter knowledge to empower themselves at the polls during a vibrant town hall issues forum on Monday, Sept. 30 at The Chicago Urban League. Panelists dived into issues ranging from education to voter apathy, and residents were eager to get their questions answered.
- Oct. 3, 8, and 16: Voter registration and door-knocking events at the King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove. We are inviting volunteers and deputy registrars to assist.
- Oct. 6: The Chicago Black Gay Men’s Caucus is partnering with The Chicago Urban League to register voters, noon to 4 pm, during LOVEFEST 2024 at The South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 South Shore Drive.
- Oct. 1: Urban Leaguers met more than a dozen seniors during a voter registration drive at the Paul G. Stewart Center, 400 East 41st Street. Seniors checked to ensure they were in good standing and ready to vote on election day.
- To date, we have successfully registered 50 voters, and more registration events are in the works before the election.
- Approximately 25 deputy registrars are preparing to register voters for city and county elections.
- On National Black Voter Day, September 18, the Chicago Urban League visited Gary Comer High School on the South Side of Chicago to register high school seniors. Seven students registered to vote. The Youth & Family Services team coordinates with the school to arrange early voting opportunities.
- A partnership with the Lambda Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Chicago Urban League volunteers is underway, registering as many residents as possible before the November election. Through October 3, volunteers and AKA members are engaged in voter education activities and registering high school seniors at Southland Prep in Richton Park, IL., and Thornton High School in South Holland, IL.
